Do Meditation, I'm not just talking about "zen monk" type of meditation, just the sort of quiet time, closing eyes and let your mind relax and take you to where it wants too, I have found it really helps to do this, it gives the mind a break and is so relaxing, but the most wonderful thing happened to me in one of my little session's in that I must have gone a little deeper than usual because I found myself on a beautiful beach, I sat at the waters edge listening to the waves, and then out of knowhere came this stunning white Lippizaner Horse, cantering in slow motion along the shoreline, it took my breath away, he stopped near to me, I threw my arms around his neck, and knelt down so I could get on his back, he just gently walked the waters edge, I was in heaven......it came time for him to go, I put my arms around him again and it felt like he was telling me he would come back......I opened my eyes from this meditation and I was sobbing with sheer delight......it was so good

Thats why I do it sage seeker... also to help with my breakdown and help with sleeping too...I refused to take sleeping pills didn't want to go down that road, I am also getting better on letting the Negative feelings go, when I feel them creeping in I just try and meditate for a short time, it works wonders, and they say practice makes perfect, the more you do it the better it becomes, I'm so glad it's helping you too

YOU HAD A WILD DREAM. THE HORSE REPRESENTED A MAN A STALLION AND YOU CONTROLLED HIM AND RODE HIM AND LOVED HIM ALONG YOUR PLACE IN THE HEART A WATER FRONT BEACH AND HE LEFT TO AGAIN RETURN TO YOU HE SAID.
IT IS FUN TO LET YOUR MIND WONDER TO FAR AND DISTANT THOUGHTS.
TO HELP YOUR DREAM MORE, CONFUSIOUS ONCE SAID: " IF YOU HAVE A BIRD AND IT IS CAGED, IT IS NOT YOUR, FOR IT IS CAGED. TO SEE IF IT IS TRUELY YOURS, YOU MUST SET IT FREE, IF IT FLIES AWAY AND DOES NOT COME BACK, THEN YOU HAVE SET IT FREE AND IT WAS NOT MENT TO BE. BUT IF YOU SET IT FREE AND IT COMES BACK THEN CONSIDER IT YOURS.
HAVE YOUR DREAMS, HOPEFULLY YOUR HORSE WILL RETURN TO YOU.

Over the years and coping with, sometimes, excrutiating pain I have a place I go to reduce pain when medication doesn't help. It involves water too. If you bring yourself to this level of meditation again you will be able to take yourself to that beach. Water seems to come into deep meditation a lot and maybe it has healing properties.
I taught Steffi to meditate when she was very young when she was first coming to terms with her arthritis and the pain as she couldn't take strong pain meds. She imagines the pain as cotton wool, glitter, tissues, feathers anything like that and pushes it from her arm, leg wherever the pain is. Also, when we have problems with sleeping or are really tense/upset we lay down in a comfy position and concentrate on breathing first, then imagine being in a big mansion with marble floors. The process involves standing on the marble floor and feeling the cold hard surface underfoot, walking through the house to the garden (on the way seeing everything in the house, sounds, smells etc., and the difference between the marble floor and the grass outside. Again take time to listen to the garden and smell the aromas until you reach a lake (there's that water again!) and walking into the lake and laying in the water......by that time you'll either be asleep or very nearly lol.
Tc used to do a lot of meditation when he was involved in Martial Arts but he doesn't seem to be able to get there anymore. Any form of meditation is good as it can relax a persons body in a way that no amount of medication or illegal substances do.

I do two types of "meditation".

One is usually on a passage in the Bible or some book of an uplifting nature letting my mind wander among the possibilities contained in the passage.

The other I usually do on a Sunday afternoon, after lunch, in a horizontal position on the couch in my home office.

I was very surprised, a few years ago, to learn that my Senior Pastor does the same type of meditation on Sunday afternoons.

Me too, i used to do the meditation, Loving in golden temples, my love is flowing on heavenly seas
The silent commands and heard throughout the lands
And are weaving his patterns with ease. All of the beautiful mountains beyond. Can surely not tempt me to stay
Even my musical melody thoughts are memories in yesterday. Wave upon wave of life within me
Give me the strength to go on
Wave after wave of love all around me
Give me the time to catch on

My med Doctor is holistic and she has recommended it to me several times. I have never taken the time. I think I'll look into it. Also, there is something called "Breathwork" that involves healing from within us too. This may be what I need because I don't take time to relax. Example: It's 4:37 AM where I am.

I do! - I am sometimes prone to situational anxiety, so meditation calms me quickly and provides a much needed respite from negative thoughts :-) I have my own special 'place' I go in my head...a cove surrounded by rocks and flowering bushes in the Caribbean sea. My mental imagery allows me to fully relax and I can even smell the salt air and hear the lapping of the waves.

Sand castles in the sky -- take my bucket once in awhile and have a fun outing. Most often I prefer to "trip" with God when contemplating or searching for peace/contentment.

That's interesting - I must say, that sort of thing is quite beyond me - my mind just won't go that way. Nice if you can I suppose.
There is of course always the possibility that you took too many substances in the 60's......
