It is learnt that Trenor, the mother of "Baby Grace" and Zeigler, the step-father who battered her, met a couple of years ago playing an online game, World of Warcraft.
Are friendships that start on such a trivial footing as an online game a bad way to start a long term relationship?
Should one be wary of people who forge strong ties on the net on the assumption that they can't in REAL life?

Edit: My point exactly Tropical, there are people who don't realise it & who depend sole on the net for friendships, which is dangerous not only to them as has been proved.

You don't know who is safe and who isn't. It's best to assume no one is for meeting in person.

I strongly feel that net is never the real face of a person . It is very easy for evil minded people to create false image in the net and trick a person into it.. it is a good place to hang around and make some net pals.. but that should end with that as otherwise it can lead onto unfortunate consequences as you had mentioned..

I have to disagree.
I met my partner playing an online game. Neither of us had trouble making friends or relationships in 'real' life. Both of us had 'real' lives besides the computer. We just both happened to like that game.
When I went to his town for a holiday one day, there were a few ppl from our team living there so I organised a party for us to all meet. We met, got to know each other better and became good friends. We visited each other for holidays here and there and eventually hooked up, fell in love and moved in together. I wouldn't say we had an online relationship. We did however use the internet to keep in touch in between times.

People are murdered, or disappear, everyday, often from meeting someone online.
If you want to stay safe and alive, don't meet your online friend, until you have requested and received a Security Check on that individual. It's for your own safety.
I once met someone online. Long story short. He had been in jail for using his DEAD father's SS #. He had been in jail for stalking a girlfriend.
I recommend that anyone wanting to meet their online pal, please do a background/security check on the individual first.
You can look online for other companies that also do background checks on individuals.
There are companies, like KnowX.com, that for a fee, will perform a security check on specific individuals.
Your safety is at stake, don't risk meeting a stranger, for a cup of coffee, it could be your last!

The Australian government has also got the same concerns as you do and have provided professional advice on this very matter. Better advice then I could probably ever give you. Have a read of it if you are worried and stay safe!

Online friends are good online, when they come in real life you must look on other ways. No body hurts you online.

....I think it depends on the people....because even from meeting people in the Real world...guys I have known...can at first seem very different from their true selves...just have to always be careful...too many crazy bad people unfortunately.....
...so always be careful....with whoever you are dealing with...and don't just take them at their word...see what they actually do and how they are with you....
