I'm just dying to correct some of the people on here, so here goes...1) A principality can be a country, ask Monaco or Andorra 2) Wales is officially one of the 4 countries of the UK 3) The UK is not made up if smaller kingdoms, if it was it would be called the United Kingdoms (plural)! Scotland and England ceased to be kingdoms in 1707, when they combined to form one 'United Kingdom', get it?
Regarding the flag, of course the Welsh should be represented! When the flag was created, Wales was officially part of the kingdom of England and thus was already represented, but now that's not the case any more. How the Welsh Dragon is to be incorporated is another matter, of course! Another suggestion is to add the Cross of St. David, but to be frank, black or gold would just look ugly with red, white and blue!

Many of us would welcome the Welsh having representation on the flag as they are an integral part of the British nation. Welsh fighting troops are some of the best in the world and as an Englishman I'm proud of them, and as a race I like them very much . I'm just having trouble balancing that with the headlong rush the welsh and the scots are making for independance. If they dont want to be part of the United Kingdom then whats the point in messing with the flag. Once they have gone we will revert back to the cross of St George and can be pleased to have regressed 300 years. If the Welsh want to be part of the Union I'm more than happy with that.

As another Welsh lady (like the first answerer) I can't say it really bothers me that me that much that theres no Welsh dragon on the Union Jack, I've never really thought about it. I don't get the anti-English thing either, I'm married to an Englishman and he's lovely.
However I think it would be nice to have the Welsh dragon (or St David's Cross) on the Union Jack as it would make some more Nationalistic Welsh people feel more included. Can't say it makes much difference to me though as I don't have a chip on my shoulder regarding England (other than when Westminster **** up and affect us in their crappy decisions) . . .

The Union Flag is comprised of the flags of kingdoms within the United Kingdom. Wales is not a kingdom, but a principality, and therefore the Welsh flag, heraldically speaking, has no place in the Union Flag.

As Wales is after independence it seems to me to be pointless to do anything about the UK flag. If it is changed it will only be for a short while and then all will have their own flags. Leave the Dragon in his den.

Seeing as how most of the Union appears to be breaking up, or at least wants to i don't see the point. Leave well alone.

As a Welsh lady, I'd say no to this.I can't see our English neighbours liking the idea either. Why not get rid of the word Wales and say England has been extended? No, sorry, it's not an idea that floats my boat.

Kick the union, go back to your own flag! For Scots of course the union jack is a blood soaked symbol- much more partial to soothing blue! and our own symbols of nationhood, of course....
