Ive already tried meditation, and at 12:18 on this monday evening, Im getting rather worried about the lack of sleep I will endure on the morrow. For future reference. How do you shut your mind off and just go to sleep?

I have trained myself in Yog Nidra. It is an Yoga exercise to sleep sooner, deeply, soundly and to get up next morning with all bouncy state.
While going to sleep, think of your inhaling and exhaling of breath. You have to count mentally backwards from 100 to 1., when you exhale. After lying on bed, pay attention to your first inhaling.Do not count. Next when you exhale, mentally say 100. When you exhale next, say 99. Like this you pay full attention to breaths and the numbers. If any thought intrudes, attend to it and restart the counting afresh from 100
.Another important aspect of Yoga Nidra is the posture you take while trying to sleep. The posture of your body, position of your head, hands legs, torso etc as found at the time you wake up is the most comfortable posture for you. You have to remember it correctly and get into the same posture when you go to sleep. With the combination of correct posture and the breathing exercise, you will be falling in deep sleep within a minute. Please do tell me result after a week or so.

Just breathe and picture pitch black... meditation isn't meant to shut off the mind...

How do I shut my mind off? To date it hasn't been off, the next thing I'll try is a pickax. It's maddening.
