i got the idea for this question off of a reputable radio station, which asked if u could change 5 minutes of history, what would you do etc.

So folks, if YOU had the oppertunity to go back to any moment in history - for 1 hour, to try and change the outcome of a tragic event, what would you change ?

I would go go back to ww2 and try to prevent the holocaust if i could.

I would go to Captain Smith's cabin on the Titanic on the night of April 14, 1912, wake him up, and tell him the hell with the stupid Blue Riband, get up on your bridge RIGHT NOW and ring the engines down to SLOW AHEAD, until it is dawn and you can see what you might be sailing into.

It might not have stopped World War I, but among the 1500 people who died there were a lot of powerful and influential ones whose continued activity and influence in the 1920's would have made a big big difference to the way things actually turned out.

Haven't you heard not to mess with the space-time continuum? Consider the following:

If you could go back into time and were able to kill Hitler when he was a baby, would you do it? Consider the possible consequence. You kill Hitler as a young child, years later, say 1933, Ernst Roehm instead becomes dictator, in mid 1930s, HE decides to begin 'heavy water' experiments which lead to the first nuclear bomb built in 1939.

With that device, he easiliy defeats mother russia and the allies, and the Final Solution is 'completed.'

Your mistep in the space time continuum caused the death of ALL European Jewry and enslavement of half the planet...way to go!....you should'a stayed home in bed where it was safe and leave the living to others..

The abortion of Hitler would probably eliminate the holocaust. However, I would go back to the time when Christians, Muslims, and Jews split form one another. I think it was sometime after Abraham. That my friend would have saved more people by far than preventing the holocaust by itself.

I wouldn't be that 'superhero' type... if I could go back in time and change one tragic event, it would be on a more personal note. It would be an event in my life. I'd go back in time and face someone with all honesty of all my intentions from the very moment I intended them, and give that person the chance to make a decision for their own future rather than deceiving them just because I was afraid to hurt them or let them down. I would face my own fears because I always owed it to them for me to do so in the first place. So, it would have to be a personal one for me.

Unless I could be certain that reversing one tragedy would not lead to something even worse in the future due to my meddling I don't think I would change anything. For instance, I reverse 9/11 and it never happens but three years later the terrorists get their hands on a nuclear weapon (the same ones that died in the planes on 9/11) and they destroy the entiure sity of New York. I could not bear the responsibility of that.

I would go back wwI & II and all the wars/conflicts even at the beginning of the current situation in Iraq - prevent unnecessary ending of innocent lives - for we are all creatures of One Great Spiritual Being that we call God. War is not the way to Peace.

I would go back to when I was 5 years old and keep my daddy from going on that fishing trip where he fell out of the boat and drowned. Or would I? That would mean I would not have my 2 sisters or my nephews and nieces. WOW thats a hard decision.

To the person who said they would stop the atomic bombs we dropped on Japan, you would probably be writing this in Japanese because they might have won that war without the bombs and for sure more people would have been killed in the long run. Maybe one of your ancestors and you would not even be here. Think about it.
