brain tumor that will need to be surgically reoved. Im thinking of filing bankruptcy and I know there are no debtors prisons but I've heard that not paying purchase orders can get you jail time. Truth to this? Legitimate answers only please!

Only fraud will send you to jail. You intended to pay so it isn't fraud.
