Well I understand that it is going to be tough but does anyone have any tips for getting to sleep? I've only been smoking around 4 years now.. since i was 16 and I don't think my mind has been off cigarettes for the last 48 hours. Laying down right now I feel like almost hypervenalating. What did you guys do to help you get to sleep? Why is it that when you quit the only thing you can think of are the bad things and the problems in your life?

poemmusic, i am about 6 feet tall. I don't think it really effected my growth because while I was in high school i lifted a lot and actually noticed pretty significant gains. Although you are not as healthy while smoking and it has definitely taken its toll on me.. i have lost a lot of weight and at least the weight gain will benefit me :)

go to whole foods or a natural market tomorrow and buy kava-kava extract and valerian extract. These will help you sleep naturally and calm your nerves.

I'm about to quit smoking as well, so it's interesting to hear what I'm up against. I don't really have any advice for you since I am yet to wander down this path, but soon I will. But thats what I was afraid of, that when I quit I will only be reminded of the awful things in my life. But remember friend, its best to get out now than later on down the line where you feel you can't and won't get out. I'm curious though, how tall are you? I'm trying to evaluate if smoking cigarettes does or does not effect your height.

you may catch some insomnia.. I drink tea.. herbal tea from teavanna.. chamomile, sleepy time teas.. stuff like that will help you, and a warm shower before you go to bed. You can also find a away to wear youself out. I would stop thinking so intensly about things, and zone out.. just straight dissassociate. that helped me a lot. Also, congratulations for not being like every other pussy out there, and not quitting. you are a good example, and I applaud your courage. I just quit smoking like 7 days ago mysef again ( i go on and off every couple years for the enjoyment). This time is for good though.. there is no need to smoke anymore as I get older.

When I was quitting instead of coffee or tea at night I'd drink hot chocolate or eat some chocolate.
Also I phased out by using a the timing technique of increasing the time between cigarettes adding more time between cigarettes until I completely stopped smoking.

Key is don't give up on first try. You give in and smoke one get right back on the wagon and try again. It is going to take you two or three tries to stop as a rule if you have been smoking for any time at all.

hypnosis/hypnotherapy is AWESOME. i stopped over 10 years ago and it was a PIECE of CAKE.

figure out what you pay/paid for a pack of smokes. multiply that times the # of packs per day. then multiply times 7 (days/week) then times 52 (weeks/year) that is what you spend a year. (if you are a pack a day smoker you are spending about $1,500.00 per year on smokes) you do the math... oh yah, how is your health???? the guy with the 4 pack a day habit: $6,000.00 a year on smokes and i bet you felt fit as a fiddle.... eeekkkk

i spent $1,000.00 to stop. yes it was a lot. but at the time considering health risks etc it was well worth it (and smokes then were 1/2 what they are now)

also: every time i finished the phone sessions with the long distance therapist, i was SO relaxed and felt SO good it was AMAZING!!!

I just quit smoking four months ago and I smoked for twenty five years. At the end, I was smoking four packs a day. The patch is a fantastic way to quit and I suggest that you wear it all day and when you sleep. Then replace it with a new one in the morning. I am now done with the patch and I am a the point that people can smoke around me and I don't care. Also, I did not cheat one time. I did keep one cig with me just to know that I had it but I NEVER USED IT.

Update: This cracks me up. I am an ex smoker that absolutely loved to smoke and I successfully quit yet I get thumbs down for my methods and the people who never smoked get thumbs up for their methods. You have got to be kidding me... Okay, well, good luck in your ventures...

as a hypnotherapist with a success rate helping people STOP smoking (not quit) that tops 98% i can tell you that you are making this incredibly painful and difficult for yourself.

using hypnotherapy, with an experienced therapist, STOPPING smoking is easy, effortless. one sleeps and does not worry about weight gain either. it is not inexpensive, but what is your health worth. if you continue suffering like this a few things WILL happen: you will go back to smoking, you will hate life and become horrible to be around, if you dont start smoking again now, you will since you have no implanted suggestions to KEEP your FROM smoking again...

so, suffer as you will...

You think that way because you're body is focused on wanting to smoke, but you're trying to discipline it so that you can't. It's mind over matter for sure here. Try to think positive, and think that you can't need it, even if it feels like you do. To try to get to sleep I would actually reccomend Melatonin, it's a natural drug that will help you fall asleep. It is 5-methoxy-N-acetyltryptamine.

i smoked for 15 yrs and i quit smoking. ive been smoke free for almost 2 yrs. i chewed the nicotine gum, i forget the name. but it tasted like s***. literally. so i did not chew it has much has it said on the package. so i chewed regular gum. the nicotine gum helped me get the edge off and i did not have any trouble going to sleep. i only chewed the nic gum went i was really really craving a cig. so it did help. the first few weeks is hard, but after that its gravy.
