If a light bulb burns out but, the light switch is turned on does it still use electricity? I might be asking a really dumb question LOL but for some reason today when a light bulb blew out in my house I began to wonder. I didn't know the answer for sure but I am really curious and my mind has been churning trying to rationalize and come up with the answer. at first I thought no but then I thought well maybe. I researched and found the answer so now I am turning this into a poll to see just how many people actually know the correct answer. So for an easy 10 pnts. tell me the answer and the reasoning behind what you think the answer is. The best answer gets the points. Have a great night all!!!!

A regular old-fashioned incadescent bulb will not use electricity after the filament burns out (opens).

However, if you're useing flourescent bulbs, even the new screwin kind, they will continue to use power because they have a ballast/electronics in them.

It probably does, I say that because when you plug an item in. If you turn it off at the wall switch than it saves you more electricity than turning the switch off on the appliance itself.
