No.
Two thousand years ago the Greeks had knowledge, they had a spherical toy half filled with water and two bent spouts on either side of the sphere, it was held over a flame on rods that allowed the free movement of the sphere. The flames would heat up the water and the steam would escape from the two bent spouts and then spin. The sphere would spin fast or slow depending on the amount of heat applied! Nice toy eh?
About two hundred years ago the industrial revolution began. This changed the whole of the planet in one hundred years we advanced in such strong steps that we could actually cross oceans without sails, we could traverse the continents with in weeks, we could haul thousands of tons of ore at a speed of sixty miles an hour all with a small team of men operating a locomotive. We could create electricity, that electricity allowed more to be done. We harnessed the steam that the Greeks knew about!!!
THE GREEKS HAD THE KNOWLEDGE BUT NO POWER!
Knowledge alone is static and useless unless used! So ....
" KNOWLEDGE APPLIED IS POWER".
You can know everything you need to know but unless you act on it all you have is hot water. 211 degrees Fahrenheit. That's all.
One more degree to that hot water, and you have steam! Apply the knowledge of the steam and you have POWER.
Application is that " one more degree ". There you have the power.

I don't agree with it(in the usual meaning) . The Q is what is the power? - It seems that the power is to get higher in materialistic life - I don't see any other power of simple knowledge .
It depands what people aim of life - bcause after people dies usually they are not remembered in their knowledge - but rather their personality , wisdom , good deeds.
not knowledge . why ? because knowledge is temporary .
where do you reach with knowledge ? as it written up to matrialistic good state(most of times). sometimes it even cause sadness : "and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow"(Ecclesiastes 1:18).
Wisdom is power - power to grow , to be a better person .
Very IMPORTANT : i don't say the knowledge is useless - or you shouldn't learn physics , math ......
just saying that knowledged should be placed correctly - you always have to remember what your aim of life . and if see it like this knowledge indeed power - and wonderful things with knowlage all the technology , medicine ....

so as you stated in your Q you left 3 dots to complete the sentace : "knowledge is power when you regard it correctly " - as a mean , not an aim .

Knowledge is power because knowledge can set you free.

American slave owners didn't want their slaves to read or write. Why not?
Hitler killed all the intelligent, academic Jews first. Why?

Knowledge is a catalyst for change. The Enlightenment changed so much in the course of Western history and governments.

Francis Bacon stated this, I believe. The power to enrich yourself with wisdom and knowledge gives you an internal power that each intellectual has to discover for themselves. It is a sensation that might just be my false perception, but I believe it is the reason why we're on the philosophy section of Yahoo answers.

even as a child I was inquisitive ,knowing somehow that the answers were important to me.It was never good enough to know the surface of things ,I had to know the how and why,the where and when.
It was as though I did not trust the seeming solidity of my reality.nor could I be content with the answers of those around me.I believed that if I asked the correct questions I could change the answers.I felt having the right answers would put me in control of my life.
I now know that this was my main fault ,--seeking knowledge to empower my rebellious nature.Knowledge that would give me permission to reject the morals of my parents and teachers ,religious leaders.
seeking knowledge that would free me from the bonds of reality and give me permission to gratify my self seeking nature.knowledge that would allow me to manipulate reality and others.
this leads ultimately to destruction.
This is wrong use of knowledge.
I crashed / I burned / I surrendered / I sought right knowledge / I rose from the ashes.
Today I'm empowered by knowledge and I use it for correct purposes.
So yes knowledge is power ,the power to build / the power to destroy.
I liked what GEE said , I would only change 1 thing .instead of saying "wisdom is the result of power" Id say the true power of knowledge is wisdom.
I believe that wisdom comes from outside ourselves and you must be connected to that source of wisdom ( my source is God ) that and the sum total of all our knowing and experiances empower us to live this life.
OLD DOG mentioned the greeks and its a good example .They had much the same knowledge we do today yet they did not advance past what Old dog says were "toys" (actually they created some of the most beautifull works of art and mechanical contraptions not to mention surgical instuments whose patterns we stll use today.
Perhaps their priorities were different .They were in tune to the source of wisdom ,( Their GODS )
when they began seeking knowledge for self empowerment they lost that connection and fell to ruins.
right use of knowledge is power.

As I see it, I do not find knowledgeable people wielding as much power as the rich businessmen and politicians....... both these classes of people have the ability to manipulate people through use of emotional intelligence. I believe knowledge is just one of the tools... power lies in people and it needs to be acquired by emotionally moving them.... not all types of knowledge can be very helpful in this.

Hm...How do I answer this?

Let's look at it from a war point of view. If you know the RIGHT information, you'll win. Knowing what your opposing general's favorite color is isn't going to help you win. If you know your opposing general's gameplan, and he doesn't know yours, it's likely you'll have an advantage.

But if you know useless stuff like the amount of pokemon there are or shakespeare quotes, or the year julius caesar died, it's not really powerful, but really useless. You have to know the right stuff for knowledge to become powerful if you ask me.

knowledge is power in a sense because no one can steal it from you. someone can take everything u own but any knowledge u have cannot be taken away. people can have tons of power with money but money can be taken away in an instant.

That is true, but (as Foucault said), the power to control knowledge is the greater power.
