if you had a processor running at say 2ghz that was "dual core" does that double the power so its running at 4ghz or dose it mean something different.

Still 2gHz but two processors would run the applications, threads or tasks.

It's just like having 2 cars that can both do 100mph. No matter what you do with them, you can never make them run at 200mph. But 2 cars can do a lot more at the same time rather than having to wait for Dad's car when you have a date.

Nope, just two cores -- each running at 2ghz each. The processor frequency do not add up, as it performs individually.

Edit: Core 2 Duo is the highend dual core processor made by Intel Corporation. AMD, is the leading competitor of Intel, the Athlon X2 processor is their counterpart to Intel's offering.
