If all Americans would bother to vote you could kick ar$e too.Politicians need to know that it is the people who call the tune and not big business or the strongest lobby.
Make it a rule never to vote for a right wing polly, unless of course you are a millionaire, and you will be half way to solving a lot of your problems. Good luck.

Thanks, Vittorio !! We are still a little astonished at ourselves. We were terrified Howard would be re-elected, or we'd have a hung parliament, but instead the election turned out to be an unequivocal rejection of the Coalition's policies, actions, and attitudes. They have lost far more seats than anyone dared hope, and the former Prime Minister has almost certainly lost his seat!

Have you read some of the comments from my ecstatic fellow Australians?

Those who fear the possibility of leftist totalitarianism need not worry: apart from the fact that the Australian Labor Party is in truth very middle-of-the-road, our political system will not permit it. This is because the Upper House of Parliament, the Senate, had only HALF its members up for election this time.

This means that the Coalition retains a large minority of senate seats, with right-wing minor parties giving them the balance of power, and they will be able to frustrate any of the new government's legislation that they don't like.

In addition, the newly-elected ALP and other senators will not take up their posts until July 2008, and to date the fate of some centrist or left-wing candidates still hangs in the balance due to the complexity of the Senate voting system.

(Many Australians do not understand this about our Senate.)

GOOD LUCK IN 2008!!

Kevin Rudd dislodged John Howard because Australians do not want war and the tax increases.

Cheers, but his time was due. I don't think the democrats have a chance with Obama or Clinton, none of them are as shiny as Kevin Rudd! You need a shiny person!
