I know Dan Hill Sang it and that it was in the movie Superstar, but I remember singing it in chorus and I could have sworn it was from a musical too.

Helene is right, just an overplayed song BUT it was on an album by Cleo Laine who has records full of Broadway hits which could have caused the confusion. She was on Broadway in The Mystery of Edwin Drood in the mid 80's and had her own concert in the late 70's.

Even google doesn't know any musical which featured Dan Hill's 1977 hit. :-)
No offense, but could it have been a not-so-well-known musical?

It wasn't from a musical. It was just an overplayed Top 40 hit.

I don't think it was from a musical, just a hit in the 70's.
