The reason is because the Big 12 schools are from the mid-west part of the country. We are not the gangster thug schools like in Cali or Florida. We are not the rich schools like Ohio State, Michigan and ND. The rest of the country think that states like Nebraska, Kansas, Mizzou, Oklahoma and even Texas are all farm boys, slow dumb hicks. But they all recruit these states. There has always been a Big 12 team somewhere in the top 10 rankings. Mizzou will win the NC this year, and all people will talk about is how some other team got screwed out of it. When Oklahoma or even Texas (whom I very much dislike) won their recent NC's, the biased East Coast and West Coast medias claimed it was because the other teams were off their games or it was because of one player. I hate the Texas Longhorns, but even I could tell that the '05 Championship team dominated the country. And it wasn't only because of Young. That team was excellent form top to bottom. Bush may have won the Heisman that year, but USC was outplayed by a better team in the NC game. The big 12 may be in a slump lately, but the conference will rise again. It will be interesting to see what the media says this year when Mizzou wins the NC this year. What excuse will they come up with to explain why a Big 12 team is again National Champions?

I think it has so much to do with the eastern media bias. When Kansas State won the conference championship game, the national reputation of the Big 12 took a big dive in the eyes of the eastern media. How can your conference be any good if the worst team in NCAA I-A history wins your conference?
The east only respects the Big 12 if Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas win the conference. If anybody else wins, then the media consider the Big 12 to be a s*it conference.
Doesn't help any that Kansas and Missouri were so good this year, it wasn't Nebraska in the North to please the media.
Remember the Big 12 is the only Big conference in the USA, not the Little 11, Little Least or Little Worst.

Too much of the spread offense all over the conference. The spread offense is a great equalizer...in favor of the other team. If you're the favorite, and you're running the spread, the other team already has a 10 point advantage going in. You can't slam the door on teams when you use the spread. You either throw the ball every play, stopping the clock on incompletions, or run it laterally, stopping the clock when you run out of bounds. When you're a power running team, you beat teams into the ground and let them know that they have no chance against you. When you read the spread, teams always know they have a chance to come back against you.

As an Oklahoma fan I will tell you exactly why. Oklahoma not winning the big 12 and still going to the National Championship game. And then going again, the next year, and getting beat. Someone from the Big 12 is gonna have to smack a Pac-10 and SEC powerhouse to earn that respect back.

Texas is looked as having beat USC simply becasue of Vince Young. Someone is gonna have to do it again, without stellar play from just a single player.

The verb "hate" does not need a preposition after it.

There are a lot of weak teams in the Big XII, especially this year (basically the entire North outside of Kansas and Missouri, as well as Baylor). It is far from the best conference in the country, though it is way better than the Big Ten.
