I have a 9 week old daughter. I bought this baby carrier with which I can carry her in the front and on my back. It says on the box that it is suitable from birth on, but we tried it out a couple of weeks ago and she really didn't look comfortable in it, she kind of slumped and her back wasn't straight at all. It seemed as if she didn't have enough support. Are these baby carriers not made for small infants or does she have to be able to sit first? What am I doing wrong and when can I carry her in that carrier because although her stroller is just fine for most times it would be very convienent and nice if I could just carry her on me sometimes, too.

I do have the carrier already. I just need to know what I am doing wrong (the instructions that came with it weren't too conclusive) or if they are just not ment for babies that can't sit yet.

make sure you have her on your front first and yes you can use them from birth. Just remember how crumpled she was 9 weeks ago inside you! She may seem a little uncomfortable but if she is not crying or fussing or squirming she is fine. she will tell you if she doesn't like it by screaming.

Make sure you have it nice and snug and tight. Adjust the straps all the time as they do loosen sometimes.
Make sure it is sitting up high enough and not low slung otherwise you and her will not be comfortable. Her head should be lying above your breasts/on your upper chest. She should be forward facing on your front until she is much older and can sit on her own. Then you can switch her to forward facing on your front or back. They need to have good head control before they do this.

It may seem a little strange, but take a peek at other mums with little bubs in carriers. They are all a little crumpled looking in them but most of the time you see them sound asleep and as comfy as ever!

best of luck and try using it around the house while you do housework first, to get used to it before venturing out without the stroller as back up if your back gets sore or she wants out!!

i thnk they work better when the child is awake than sleep, especially for infants such as yours. Some carriers are able to be tightened more than others. I've had some that were real bulky that i didnt care too much for and another that fit nicely. When they are able to sit them selves up is is a little more comfortable, though i was never completely comfortable myself wearing them, so i never wore them much.

since your child is so young, try facing her towards you so she can curl up against your chest a little. It may be more comfortable for the both of you. Also, i would try the sling carrier which may be more suitable for her age.

the babies tend to slump in the carriers. you can try adjusting it or getting a new one but you will probably find that it's not much different. try the sling kind. for younger babies they seem really nice. you can get one at babies r us that is a sling and a carrier and you can conver back and forth. that is what i'm getting so i can get the most use out of it.

A Baby Bjorn carrier is fine in the front as long as the baby is facing you, they need to be able to support their backs and necks a bit better to face forward, and they need to support themselves fairly well on their own to ride on the back.

Even tiny babies can ride in them, sometimes you just have to make a few adjustments here and there, I always got comments from my mother that my daughter looked "uncomfortable" but she loved her carrier and I carried her in it from about 2 weeks old. Make sure all your straps are tightened enough to give her plenty of support

For babies that young I would recomend a hotsling. They are great! I loved mine when my little man was tiny.
