Nowhere near as much as some people have probably been telling you. Roughly.....about 10 seconds of idling worth. Not much.

If you could, it would be economical for you to shut off the engine at each stoplight. It depends on how quick your car starts. On my Ford F250, you just touch the key and it is running. I shut it off all the time when sitting at lights in Houston traffic.

On a cold engine start there might be a minute amount of gas that is not ignited, on a warmed up engine there is no gas wasted by restarting the engine. This is how hybrid cars realize their gas savings by shutting down the engine every time you stop and restarting it when needed.

My old rattler used to get vapor locks in the summer. After letting it cool, or wrapping the fuel line in a wet rag for a while, I used to prime the carburettor to get the engine started (and hopefully, pull the petrol through the line). A gas can lid tipped down the carby ran for a few seconds.

it really depends on how your vehicle gets the gas whether its a carburettor system or fuel-injection system. most newer fuel-injected cars most vehicles got fuel-injection in mid-to later 80's and the new systems take very very little gas to start. a fuel-injector squirts the fuel directly in the cylinders meaning less waste. but a carburettor just allows drips with it synchronized to the engine. if your vehicle is a 97 or newer you shouldn't be concerned.
