The judge will probably issue a bench warrant for your arrest. You should have changed the date if it was inconvenient. It is too late now. Judges take this very seriously. Also, they have such large egos they like to show you who is in charge, so they will throw you in jail and fine you. Good luck.

Yeah. Jury duty ruined my whole day when I got snagged from the selection pool!! Telling them that I was seriously diabetic and without proper food and insulin didn't keep them from putting me on the case. After 4 1/2 hours of sitting around listening to mundane this n' that about so n' so and their bankruptcy problems all morning, I had to beg for a break so I could go eat something before I collasped from low blood sugar in the jury box!! It totally sucked.
Chances are, if you keep getting called for it, like I did, they will continue to keep calling you back until you eventually show up. They will fine you if you don't go because it's your civic duty as a voting American. The only way to get out of it: give up your right to vote. I know people who've done it for just that reason.

Yes you will really get a fine and yes there are consequences. The only way you can get out of jury duty is if you are absent from the area for school (which just reschedules it) or cannot leave your house for some (documented) reason.
You can try telling the officials that you have some bias one way or the other for the people participating in the trial (i.e. "I don't like black/white/asian/etc. people") but remember, they know every trick in the book.
Just go, you get paid for it, and show your place of employment the paper stating that you have to go. They will likely reschedule your day off.

You have to show up. It's not jury "privilege", it's jury "duty".
Depending on the jurisdiction in your state-locale, you could be fined, jailed, or have a warrant put out for your arrest.
It's not something most people like to do, it's a civic responsibility. Be glad you live in a country where you can be part of the judicial system.

Funny jury duty story...NO LIE.
I thought it might be kind of cool, plus I wasn't working days, so I thought what the hell.
Well, about an hour into it, I felt like I was going to poop myself. I summond the jury leader or whatever she is called, and she let me go to the bathroom. Nothing. I go back to my seat (this was during voi dire, which is where both sides ask a bunch of questions to see if they want you). About 30 minutes later, I get this severe pain in my abdomen. I mean it was BAD. I though, OMG, my appendix is bursting or something! I get another bathroom break, and still...NOTHING! A few more minutes, same terrible pain. This time, I tell the jury nazi, "I have to go to the emergency room. Something is WRONG!". I even called my husband and told him to meet me at the hospital. I race to my car, get on the expressway...and toot. I seriously farted. It was just gas. To this day, I am so freaking glad I did not show up at the ER with gas.
But I got out of jury duty.
Good luck!

The day I reported, the judge had the clerk issue bench warrants immediately following role call. I wouldn't risk it. You probably had several weeks to submit a request for postponement. Also, my community has a number to call the day before reporting to let you know if you're still needed. Look over your document and see if there's a number to call. Cops won't bust down your door, but if you get pulled over for a ticket, you'll be taken before a judge to clear the warrant (probably a fine).

depends where u live - but a fine can be high & YOU WILL get one. I've been & I've never been chosen - they call in about 3x the people they need & choose from those. you may have to spend/waste a half or full day there, but your employer is supposed to still pay you. So take a book, newspaper, mag (but no video stuff) & you won't pay a fine or be called back for at least 5 yrs.

You can be fined or go to jail if you ignore this again. Do not. They pay you for going, anyways.
When you are called in for selection, fake a bias against whatever is being asked - for example if the person on trial is for Grand Theft Auto, make sure that they know that your car was broken into last month. This will most likely get you excluded because the defense will see a bias in you, and their job is to get the most likely people to identify with their client.

Attend the jury duty if you do not have a valid reason for an absence, otherwise, you can be declared in contempt of court for which fines could be imposed.

You can get fined, your best bet is to either hope that the case will be dismissed, or that somebody you know is there, If either of those happen, you dont need to do jury duty.
