i have four children to buy for. We put gifts under the tree that are from mom and dad, and then we also have to buy gifts that are from santa. with things being so expensive i feel like im unable to buy enough. i want them to have 5 gifts from me and dad, and then 3 or 4 from santa, but this seems impossible .
how do famiies with lots of kids do it???

growin up the smaller presents came from my mom and dad on christmas eve, and the bigger ones from santa. Dont get me wrong, the kids each have 5 really nice things right now. I just didnt know what you woud consider smaller gifts. I dont want them to be disappointed. even though im sure they would never be.

Why not one big gift from you and one from Santa. Then fill the stockings with plenty of small things, each wrapped. Top off the stocking with candies, an apple, and a peppermint cane. That is how I did it, and my daughter does it now. My daughter always said the the most fun was opening all of the small gifts in her stocking every year, and her kids say the same!!
I put bubble bath, trinket type toys, coloring books and colors, jump ropes, Barbie outfits, play lipsticks, flavored chapsticks and lip glosses, yo-yos, small bottles of perfume and aftershave, candles, small electronic auto games, games for the Gameboy, DVDs, cds, etc.. whatever was appropriate and inexpensive for their age.

I've found that big lots is good. Something my parents did growing up was give us the "big" presents from them and then Santa brought the little gifts, the hair accessories, new books, little toys. I don't know how your family is spiritually but we've chosen to mimic my parents and down play Santa. on DEC 12 we do a little something in the kids shoes for St. Nickolas. hope that helps

You could try craigslist. You can find used toys, nothing wrong with second hand. Also, you can get a few nice toys, then go to the dollar store for some cheaper selections. They have coloring books, squirt guns, story books, dolls, parachute men, stuffed animals, basically all kinds of toys for only a dollar.
