It is 9:30 in southern california and there is a yellow dot next to the moon, this is not normally there and I am wondering what it is. Anyone know?

its a planet for sure. I saw it too and asked here on YA which planet it was.... I though it was venus.

BUT IT IS MARS> a nice link

it caught my attention because you rarely see something that close..... stars get "out shined" and seem to disappear in the brightness of the moon

planets don't do that if they are close

actually I can BARELY see a star a nudge above and right of Mars with my naked eye.

funny I ended up answering my own question

That yellow dot could be a star, but it could also something else because I'm looking at it and it isn't as twinkling as the other stars and it isn't usually there like you said.
