I'm currently a student at Auburn University. I'm originally from Texas, and I'm looking to transfer to a university in the San Antonio area. Which one would you recommend and why? I appreciate your help!

This would of course depend on many factors. Your major, your grades, your desired tuition range are some key things to consider.

For a basic liberal arts type education the best school in the state is Trinity University in San Antonio. This is, however, a private school, so the tuition is higher, and a smaller school so the number of majors is limited.

For a general state school, I would choose the University of Texas at San Antonio. With 28,534 students enrolled in 126 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, UTSA is the second-largest component in The University of Texas System and has been one of the state's fastest-growing public universities for much of the last decade. UTSA offers 63 bachelor's, 43 master's and 20 doctoral degree programs. With 10 doctoral programs and five more master's programs in the planning stages or awaiting final approval, UTSA is rapidly moving toward classification as a doctoral/research intensive institution. At 28,000 student it compares in size with Auburn, but will not seem at all the same.

The "lowliest village on the plains" (sorry I meant lovliest, you know us Bama grads) has much longer developed traditions and of course a fine athletic program which is important to not only the students on campus, but also the alumni and half of the people in the state. There is a much more developed Greek System and other traditions.

Texas A&M (Texas' version of Auburn) is starting a San Antonio Campus, but the groundwork is just developing and probably will not be established enough to meet your needs.

The other colleges and universities in San Antonio are all private schools which are not as academically strong as Trinity, but have some good aspects, such as Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake and St. Marys.

I am a San Antonio native, but went to Alabama for college on an athletic scholarship, and often considered moving back to Texas. However, I usually considered either moving to the University of Texas or Texas A&M.

I have also always wondered why in a state where HS football is so strong and there is such a strong tradition of college football from the old Southwest Conference, that the only college football team in San Antonio is the Division 3 team at Trinity. (though they do consistently make the DIII playoffs)

UTSA is considering starting a football program. If they started a program they are in the Southland Conference of what was called Div 1-AA or NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision. Though not the same feel of a day at Bryant-Denny or Jordan-Hare where football is a religion.

Hope you come home. But for the sake of us poor down-trodden Bama fans, leave the Auburn colors in lower Alabama. (just kidding)

Trinity University is by far the BEST university in San Antonio. Recent, US News and World Reports has ranked Trinity at #1 in the Western Region (for the 24th year in a row). It has been described as the "Ivy League of the South" in the past. Academically, Trinity has a very challenging curriculum that emphasizes real-world practicum experiential learning. The population is diverse, and purposely kept around 2500 students (including graduates). As an alumnus, I can personally speak of the long-term ties one makes, and benefits to the quality education one receives at Trinity.

I do go to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and this story is VERY TRUE!!! It made the news and everything. I don't agree with what they did, but i wish they went a different way about it. yes, like handing out educational books or even free copuns to mikey d's. they school did not step in for the fact that the club would of said "freedom of speech/right to gather in a peaceful way". i think that they did it for attention and they got it.
