Do they look nice? Do people actually like recieving them?
I thought it would be a good project for my daughter and I to do together.

Yeah. That's a great idea.

Our church has jars of cookie mix to give out to people on their first visit. The mix is layered into mason jars, so that each layer is visible. The flat part of the lid put on top and then a square of decorative fabric (cut wtih pinking shears) placed on top of the flat lid. And the outer ring placed over the fabric, so that the fabric knda flares out around the jar ring.

The instructions of how much wet ingredients to add, and the baking temp & time are written on a card (pinked edges) and tied to the top of the jar with red or green curling ribbon. Leave ends of the ribbon long enough so you can tie a nice bow, and curl up the ends by running the blade of your scissors down them.

I was really pleased to receive one of these when I was a first time visitor. A pretty and practical gift.

I've done the cookie jars before and people love them, even if they don't actually make the cookies. The jars look cute sitting on a counter.

I've also done the hot chocolate jars, where you mix layers of hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, and shaved chocholate or chocolate chips. Same concept.

My big hit gift last year though was a jar full of coffee mix I made myself. You know those International House of Coffees you can buy in the can? The ones where you just add in hot water and stir? They're like hot chocolate mixes, but different flavors. I made some that were French Vanilla, Mint Mocha (a huge hit!), and Vienna. Everyone in the office loved them.

There's actually cookbooks you can buy for jar gifts. There are so many great recipes that go way beyond the cookie recipe. Good luck!

Well last year my family went the gifts from a jar way for the extended family. About the only thing that went into the basket besides the jars that we didn't make were various shaped pastas. We made chai tea mix, peppermint hot coco mix, holiday cookie mix, and homemade pesto sauce. Folks really fell in love with the gift baskets. Especially for the pesto sauce as they could put it over the pasta they got in their basket or they could add a little to a soup for a little added zip.

The great thing about things like cookie mixes in a jar is that you don't have to eat it before the cookies go bad and you can make up as little or as much as you want. Plus you have nice and warm fresh from the oven cookies.

My best friend is an elementary school teacher and she says that the best gift a teacher could possibly get are school supplies - or a gift card to a store where school supplies can be purchased. You may not know exactly what he needs, so a gift card should be the best way to go. I never knew that most teachers foot the bill for their supplies for their students. It's nice when parents can help out a bit. He'll love it.
