You're right. Mostly in the North Italy people don't like Napoli and there are a lot of them belonging to Lega del Nord party ,that's absolutely against the people of the italian southside. I guess there are many reasons for this :different mentality (northerns say southerns are not working), people of the South (the poorest one) emigrating to the Nord with increased competition in obtaining a job, stereotypes about people coming from Naples that they are all from Camorra (the Neapolitan mafia), they are all dirthy, they are all thieves and robbers. On the contrary I think ,speaking in general, people of the South is warmer and more friendly as the northerns, they are hard workers when they find a job (in the South there are many less opportunities, this is not Napoli's fault...!!) and mostly are honest people. Napoli is an awesome town and I'm always happy to go there. I love all of it, aside the traffic in the city that's absolutely crazy.
If you plan to go there you can do that very quitely: You'll need just to use yr common sense as by elsewhere worldwide.

It is a stereotype that has been ongoing for years and is nothing new. Southern Italians are usually less educated, less refined, lazier, blah, blah blah. There are political parties over the decades that have exploited the resources of the south to the point of depletion forcing many in those regions to go seek work in the north or outside of the country. If the elected officials from the southern provinces really wanted to change they would fight for it. Unfortunately many are complacent and think they have a job for life by towing the party line. Southern Italy is a vital and integral part of Italy and it should be treated like the jewel that it is not exploited for a wealthy few who give nothing back to the region.

Becasue the standard of living is higher in the north, and many italians of the south go to work there.Dont forget also that it i related to some illegal things i dont want to mention, and this is wrong, because not all the people live like that, and illegal jobs are everywhere..
However, i like so much people of the south they are really so opened and they show you their hospitality in many ways

It's a lack of education, understanding, insecurity and preconceived ideas that create prejudice and envy. This then leads to hate and it seems as if some Northern politicians have stoked this one to the point of organized hate.
