I don't pray, and I don't believe in the power of prayer as it relates to getting favors from a higher power, or a diety that goes by any other names.

I know that meditation is calming, and if prayer is a kind of meditation, it can be calming as well, and a calm mind can work in seemingly magical ways to find answers to questions that have been hard to answer. So in that sense, there is power in prayer/meditation. But I think it's just tapping into the power that you have, not a power that a supernatural being bestows as a gift or favor.

I do think that if someone believes in a higher power and believes that their higher power hears their prayers and might answer them, then prayer can be a source of hope to someone. Being prayed for can also give a sense of hope and caring in a harsh world, but again, to me, it's a human thing, a psychological thing, not an emminence from a supernatural being. Mind/body are so connected that psychological comfort can bring physical healing, so again, maybe there is power in prayer in that way.

The person praying and the person being prayed for will probably also ascribe any solution that comes after prayer to that prayer being answer by their higher power. I don't need to rob them of that comfort, if they want it. I just don't subscribe to it myself.

To each his or her own.

I believe in prayer, but I don't believe in the crap these institutions put into people's heads. Not all of my prayers are answered, though. I blame other people for my prayers for snow not being fulfilled. They don't want nature to do it's thing, huh? >_<+

Yes i do, God has answered many of my prayers. I'm waiting for one to be answered right now. I've never had a lot of patience, but some things are worth waiting for.
In my worst moments, i often thought to give up on praying.
I was wrong to think that, people give up if it doesn't happen overnight. You have to have faith!

Yes, prayer is extremely powerful.
We prayed for my friend's 8 year old cousin to recover from a brain tumor. The doctors said her chances were slim..she lived.
