It runs fine open road, But when I come to a stop it wants to die out. I have to put it in neutral and rev it so it wont turn off. I replaced the air idle control valve but no luck. Anybody has had this problem before that might know what is the problem.

In all probability you have an EGR valve that is stuck open. The EGR valve is an emissions control valve that opens to allow spent exhaust gasses into the intake manifold to add inert gases to the intake charge which in simple terms lowers the temperature of combustion and prevents NOx from forming.

The EGR valve is only supposed to do this over 2000 rpm otherwise the effect is that of a giant air leak that leans out the mixture and causes the car to stall or almost stall at idle. So if the engine runs fine over 2000 rpm when the valve is supposed to work and stumbles and stalls at idle when its not supposed to be working then the odds are really high that the EGR valve is stuck open. The usual cause of that is carbon build up in the valve.

The other cause would be a vacuum leak that is allowing unmetered air to bypass the throttle plates. The usual suspects for that is a leaking intake manifold gasket (though rare) or broken or disconnected vacuum lines, though it would have to be a pretty big line or many lines that are leaking to cause the near stall.

have the EGR valve checked. I think you'll find that's the cause of your problem
hope that helps

ok at the beginning you opt for 2 poeple for this attempt. commence by employing taking one spark plug twine out and geting a protracted screw motive force stick that interior the spark plug twine the place the sprak plug is normaly and carry that a pair of a million/4 inch from the engine. now have the 2nd guy or woman interior the vehicle turn the biggest over. what you're in seek of is the spark. you ought to try this to anyone and if anyone provides off a spark then its no longer the distributor. if its no longer that attempt casting off the mass air bypass sensor and commencing the engine if it works with it out then you definately nedd to bathe it or replace it. sturdy success.

Try the simple stuff first. Spark plugs, wires, air filter and a fuel filter. Thats about $75 bucks in parts and you can change it all in an hour. More than likely your car will need it anyways if its a 91.
