Believe it or not the problem isn't so much that America wants to dominate the world (certainly there are those who do but there are people like that in every country... America simply has the might to enable them to act on those dreams). The real problem is that for most of the last 100 years America has been at war with someone somewhere in the world. Whether the war was cold or hot... a shooting war or a war of political brinksmanship we've been facing what our fearful leaders told us was the latest "Evil Empire". After 100 years of that, half of which involved the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. staring at each other with their fingers on the nuclear trigger waiting for the other one to blink, Americans don't really know any other way. We have the habit of war rather than the habit of peace.

To make it worse we've never had a war on our own soil in those years. We've sent sons and daughters off to die in foreign lands and paid a dear price at that... but we've never had the enemy come to us and bring our homes and buildings down around our ears. Yes, I know about 9/11 but what I'm talking about isn't a single terrorist incident. Besides for most Americans New York is as far away as any foreign land. What I'm talking about is standing on the brink of national disaster. The English, the Gernans and the Japanese can attest to the fact that for all that such an ordeal can make a people stronger... can breed heroes in the worst of us... it also teaches a people a deep and abiding respect for peace.

That was one of the key elements that kept the cold war with the Soviets from escalating. The Soviet Union was run by despots... but despots who had lived thru WWII and knew, first hand, what even conventional war would do to their country. They had no desire to find out how much worse a nuclear war would be.

I can only hope that we Americans can finally learn to embrace that lesson without the need to be put thru such a fire.

I'm guessing you think America wants to blow up everyone else, and achieve world domination. This I cannot tell you the answer to. However, I certainly hope not, and I think it would be safe to answer no to these questions.

China, on the other hand...haha jk

no... america is not looking for world domination.

America just thinks it is capable of policing the world and keeping everyone else in line. Its not exactly fair of us, but we're doing it nonetheless.

But we're definitely not looking to "take over" or anything. Just stop other people from doing what we consider "bad".

I seriously doubt it. Americans are not narcissistic warmongers masses around the world think they are.
United States is supposed to be the "perfect" definition of diplomacy after all... And there's nothing democratic about deliberately wanting to "BOOOOOOOOOOOM" all nations.

dominating world is sort of what world's superpower is supposed to do. keep everyone under control so things happen the way they are supposed to. it will be another countrys turn someday.

No. America would like the world to police itself instead teaching children to hate other points of view that aren't Muslim and the urge for dictators to fill large holes in the ground with 100,000s of dead human bodies. etc.... Please fix your English and your country.
