I live just east of Pittsburgh, and I'm looking for somewhere to travel semi-close to home next summer for a weekend trip. I'll be traveling with my fiance, and we don't want to spend too much money. He's a history buff, but I prefer "fun." He'd like to go to Washington D.C. again, but I don't know if I really want to go there again.

The furthest south would probably be North/South Carolina.

Thank you!

maine---acadia national park area or somewhere in southern maine where all the beaches are..

both of these places are reasonably close to pittsburgh for a 3-4 day weekend, probably not a regular 2 day weekend though

Try Lake George, NY. It is beautiful. I have been there several times, including camping. You can rent a boat, go para-sailing, visit the fort that is there.
