This happened to me with an old car that sat for a long period of time. The only real solution to keeping the rats out of the engine bay is to take care of the rat problem all together. I would try setting some traps and poison baits near the car.

Mothballs, sprinkle some around the engine compartment. Have used it before for several customers.

cayenne pepper powder on the affected areas also around the car this repels almost all animals

hmm, not sure. Wonder if spraying soapy water would help. Many times the taste will make animals stay away.

thats is crazy i would put a cat under the hood for a day and maybe that will get rid of them:)
