i no it is for missing in action, but not talking about the old days, people say like 'your m.i.a'

It's kind of just an expression to say you haven't been around/seen for a while.
Like how celebrities become old news and when they don't have anything exciting going on they're "mia" from the Hollywood scene.

the term is still missing in action. regardless of the context. MIA is an acronym for Missing In Action. It is from the military/armed services.

in general context it means not there.
