I tried solving it using the quadratic equation form, but to no avail. Is this problem solvable and if yes then how do I solve it. Thanks a lot.

Avoid confusion - multiply all terms by 100

x - 3 = -10x²
10x² + x - 3 = 0
10x² - 5x + 6x - 3 = 0
5x(2x-1)+3(2x-1) = 0
(2x-1)(5x+3) = 0
x = {1/2, -3/5}

x = {-0.6, 0.5}

go through and multiply by 100. After doing this you have:

x - 3 = -10x^2
Put everything on the same side and you get:
10x^2 + x - 3 = 0

this factors into:
(5x+ 3)(2x - 1) = 0

The answers are:

-3/5 and 1/2

that should help you out :-)

x - 3 = - 10x²
10x² + x - 3 = 0
(5x + 3) (2x - 1) = 0
x = - 3/5 , x = 1/2
Tip
When writing decimals, write as - 0.1 or (- 0.1) as opposed to -.1 to avoid confusion.
