We were on the beach in Hawaii, out of a bathroom comes what seems to be a VERY old woman with a big filthy bandage on her leg. She might not have been that old-being homeless ages you. I was moved to give her a $100 bill. She could not believe it, kept asking me what I wanted. I told her I wanted to share my many blessings with her. I like to think the kindness has stayed with her long after the money was gone.

I don't think its appropriate for me to talk about what I've done for someone? I'm not seeking praise. But to answer your question honestly, I have been able to help people see the positive side of things, through tough times. And that's hard, but I am able to do this because I have been through it many times, and when someone can see that you've made it, alot of the time that gives them some hope.
I've been in some of these same situations you are speaking of in your question, believe me.

I am from New Orleans and moved up to Baton Rouge (North of NOLA) right before Katrina. When Katrina hit, I had a lot of people in and out of my house (not just family & friends) during that time for food, showers, laundry, and a friendly face. What a horrible time it was, but I loved helping and being there for people in need. I just kept thinking how I wanted to do more.

I don't think I'll ever know, just as no one could ever know the best thing they've done. Any small thing we've done could affect someone. I've done many things, prolly never to be recognized or that someone who doesn't need anything might not think much of, over the years. I do it when I see it needs done, or I feel moved, and can....

The best thing I ever did turned out to be the thing I ended up wishing I had not done. There was a lady who had moved to Minneapolis from Chicago and she was working part-time at our office. I felt bad for her, because she had no money and her car broke down the first day of the job. So I paid to have her car towed to my house, let her stay with me and my other three roomates at the time, and gave her cash so she could get a few things that she needed. Fed her for free. Drove her to and from her job and to run errands, etc. And by the end of day one at my house, she started bossing me and my roomates around like she was the queen of Sheba and I was her slave girl. HONESTLY! I had JUST MET this woman and felt bad for her. So I thought I would help. And at the time, mind you, I was pretty broke myself. (HELLO!! I had THREE ROOMATES and a JUNKER CAR!!) She was SO SNOTTY to all of us. And just rude as rude could be. None of my roomies could believe her attitude. Honestly, by the end of the week, I was SO HAPPY she was leaving, I could have jumped for joy as she walked out the door. But of course, that would have been rude. It never deterred me from helping out people again. But it sure did make me think twice about a persons charactor before I did.

I can't say one thing..I try to be helpful everyday to those around me and those who need my help. It is just in my nature to be caring...I enjoy it more than I am sure they do...I want to help.
