Your kids will be attending a terrific high school. I graduated class of 2006 from MacArthur. I have loved that school.

MacArthur was the first high school in the North East ISD. It was called North East Rural High School. This was back in the middle 50's. It grew as the neighborhood grew. In 1999 they completely demolished the enitre campus and rebuilt it from the ground up. So it's a new school with all the latest technology. 3 levels of classrooms and a few portables toward the back. It's a really beautiful school.

Anyway, the principal, assistant principals, staff, and teachers are the best out there...in my opinion. I've lived in the MacArthur district K-12 so I grew up with everyone. One of my former teachers is now an assistant principal at Mac. Since the school is new, the library has over 60,000 books + media. About 50 state-of-the-art computers (in the library) connected to a super fast but safe internet connection. A library catalog that can request books from other neisd schools if a student needs that particular book. A student can request the library purchase a book/magazine that it may not carry.

The classrooms are big and the teachers are wonderful. There is 8 laptop carts that carry 30 laptops for any classroom to use. They work with wireless internet so every student can have internet access at their desks.

They have some really dedicated teachers that will stay with a student till 9:00 PM if they need to. Assistant principals that will go out of their way to help a student be sucessful.

The school provides the Electrical Systems Technology Program for students in 9-12th grade who are interested in the electrical industry. The program has been established as an Apprenticeship Program in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. Students will have an opportunity to earn apprenticeship hours while they are in high school.

There is 4 huge art studios/classrooms each include a kiln for the sculpture clases

All athletics are of course provided.

The school has a new running/walking track 4 times a mile. Made of a rubbery soft like substance.

The students can eat lunch outside on the huge courtyard with plenty of room for everyone.

Finally, my parents have always been happy with the staff, school, and teachers.

School hours are 9:00 - 4:00.

Douglas MacArthur HS as Kevin has expressed above is a very nice new facility. The Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating System found the school as recognized in 2004 for above academically acceptable standards, and has found the school to meet the standard of academic acceptability in 2005, 2006 and for 2007.

For the 2006 and 2007 years only 2 high schools on the north side of San Antonio have exceeded MacArthur HS academically according to the ratings system. Those were Health Careers HS and Reagan HS.

Mac is part of the NEISD which is one of San Antonio's two best performing school districts NEISD and NISD.

I went to Mac for a short time, but that was way too long ago to be of any benefit.

Welcome to San Antonio, your kids should be fine at Mac!
