Edgar Allan Poe's first wife, his cousin Virginia, was only thirteen years old when he married her; he was twice her age.

I need to know how bad it was considered to be to marry one's cousin, as well as how bad it was considered to be to marry someone so much younger than oneself, in the early 1800s. Please provide sources too; I need it to be credible information.

Child Brides were a more normal thing. In the past, a girl was expected to marry by the time she was 16, because of shorter lifespans. A younger woman is better able to carry a child naturally, so women married and had children much younger.

A fictional history book called "Coal Miner's Bride" might give you some insight. (Fictional history as in, based in history with fictional characters to make a point)

so i'm lazy to look this up, coz you should look up the sources, but it was very common because of the way marriage was viewed back then. it had little to do with romance and a whole lot to do with finance. AND that rimes! anyway. women had no sorce of income back then, or too little so they depended on men a lot. so what's the best way to marry? as soon as you find some worth marring and you would want to keep your wealth within the family. royalty did it all the time. so glad things changed. phew!
