The Vietnam war is the only war where I can say it accomplished nothing. The war ended because Americans finally saw that there was no point in staying that the the soldiers suffered enough when nothing was getting accomplished. There was no winning side to the war

When the communists started taking over the free side of Vietnam, the people there asked for our help, so the Democrat president, JFK, sent in troops to fight for their freedom. It lasted through another Democrat, Johnson, and then when the people were sick of Democrats running a war, they voted in a Republican, Nixon, who tried to continue with the war, but the press kept saying we were losing just as we started to make real progress. Walter Cronkite was the only news source in that era, so when he said the war was lost, everyone believed him. No one knew he was a closet communist back then.

So since the media was a monopoly back then, as the US started making progress with the Tet offensive, there was no one willing to admit we were winning because the media wanted us to lose. Eventually the people believed the media and no longer wanted to support the war.

Of course, it didn't help to have very vocal traitors like Jane Fonda and John Kerry lying to us as well as supporting the enemy, making it even harder for our troops to win.

So eventually the Democrats in congress pulled all funding for the war, so there was no choice but to evacuate.

We left millions to be slaughtered by the communists and that is still a bitter pill to swallow today.

The media tried to do the same with the Iraq war, but since they no longer own the monopoly, they can no longer get away with lying to the American people. We're onto them now. We'll never allow them to cause the US to lose a war again.

It was like the war in Iraq. We went in because we thought the people wanted a government like ours and we had great confidence that we could easily beat the dictatorship. Then when we did not beat them we thought we could just increase troop levels a little more and quickly win. Finally after burying 50 or 60,000 of our military, the american public was sick of it.
