California can't break away from the US. The Civil War ended the right for states to break away. Unless California has a larger army than the US it just isn't happening.

Constitution for the United States of America.

Article. IV. - The States

Section 3 - New States

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

Now, a war was fought in the U.S. several years ago and one of the reasons was 'could a state secede from the union?'.

You might research that and see how it turned out, perhaps that could help you find the best answer to your question.

Sure - go for it.
And if you fall on your face just apply for foreign aid like everyone else.

PS -- With the "8th largest economy in the world" you might talk to someone in your state government about solving your homelessness problem before branching out.

Why?
We're the 8th largest economy in the world no matter what. And, we need to recoup some of the massive amount of money we send to Washington, DC in the form of federal grants for municipal improvements. Besides, the nation needs our input in national elections, etc.

I'm sure there is a large portion of the USA who would love for us to do that (I am from CA too). The republican candidates would have a better chance at being elected. If this occurred I can honestly say I would move....to a red state. If we were a country I'm afraid the "country" would be run like San Francisco is now. Oh geez......horrible.

Go ahead, see how long you keep the 8th largest economy in the world. You forget, you have it because you are part of the United States, with ALL its benefits!

Well, if you honestly think you can get by without the rest of the UNITED STATES of America, I guess that is your choice. Or, I should say California's choice. I doubt that a majority would agree with you though.

We are only this strong economically because of the federal government. Without those dollars we wouldn't be where we are, and if we were our own country those federal dollars would go to another state, not us.
