You can, in most cases, transfer your number to your new phone that you buy outright, but you will have to take it to Cingular to make it happen.

You will have to pay full retail for the phone you buy outright as the discounts are usually linked to initiating a new service plan.

I have switched phones on the same account when someone gave me a better phone than the one I was using. It wasn't with CIngular, but it should be the same principle. take it to Cingular and make sure it will be compatibile.

Buy the phone, if you pay full price it does not affect your contract in anyway unless...you buy an i-phone, then you would have to get a new contract. This an Apple requirement for the agreement with cingular, now the new at&t.

If you pay less than full price ($200.00-$800.00) for a phone from a cheap LG to a Blackberry you will enter a new contract and that depends on the discount. Beware $200.00 is the cheapest you will find a new phone without a new contract.

Make sure that if the phone is insurable pay for it...If you don't you may end up buying and buyng again.

No problem, just buy a phone that doesn't require a contract and after you get it you can call cingular and tell them you have a new phone and want them to switch it for you. Try craigslist.com or 310lane.com if you want to purchase with no required contract.

Ebay is the place to get one without a contract. If you call the customer support people at ATT and whine and complain about your phone they might give you a discount on the phone you want in exchange for extending your contract. If you want a really hot phone - say the iPhone, then expect to pay a lot for it.

If you want a new Cingular, just buy it and deactivate your current one. If you want to switch to a different server, you have to pay to terminate your contract with cingular

it all depends on how much you use it, let your cingular contract expire then get yourself a tracfone, instead of paying about 40 per month $ approx $ 500.00 per year
You can get the tracfone and activation fee is about $ 120.00 per year with 400 minutes, if you buy the life time double minutes plan, which cost you about 20 more. you will be all set. have plenty of air time and save yourself about $ 300.00 per year.

If you go to eBay or another online store, you can usually buy one and when you recieve it, just open up the old phone, take out the battery, and behind it, you can find a little card. Take the card out and put it in the new phone, and voila!!

It depends on what you need as a phone. Also, if you would supply more info, as what you want in a phone, price limit, how much longer you have in your contract... it all adds up

HOPE THIS HELPS

Call them and if they dont help you, threaten to quit. If they call your bluff, then quit, pay the early termination fee and go to another phone company. Most have the same phone models available...Stop being held hostage by these companies!!!
