In places like china and california the government has made a law that their cars have to be somewhat good/better for the enviroment why cant other places? I think those places and setting a great example, What do you think???

Cars operate on 100 year old technology, the combustion engine.
Although all the major car manufacturers and our colleges and universities are looking for alternatives, none have been found yet. It will happen eventually, it will just take a little time.
No way does China have California like regulations on their cars. Maybe in an overcrowded city (that is getting ready to host the Olympics) like Beijing, but no where else.
Do a little research and see the truth. China is the world's biggest polluter and they have NO intentions of changing.
How many more jobs do you propose we send to China? If we Americans don't pull our heads out of our rear ends soon, very few of us will be working.
Won't that be great! But at least our environmental footprints will be less. No job, no money, no car, no pollution. Yeah!

Because people want to buy them.
It is still - to a small degree - a free country. That means a manufacturer should be free to make whatever people want to buy.
And I PROMISE you that cars sold in China are far, far dirtier than anything sold in the US. China is one of the worlds worst polluters. Their economy is booming right now, and most of it is fueled by filthy coal-fired power plants.
If every driver in America switched to a brand new Toyota Prius, the reduction in greenhouse gases in a full year would be less than one days power plant output from China and India.
Oh, and guess what - electric cars are dirtier than gasoline hybrids.
Why? Because a very large percentage of the electricity generated in the US still comes from stations fueled by coal or heavy fuel oil, which is far dirtier than a gasoline engine. All switching to an electric car does is move the pollution out of the drivers area, so you get to drive while the power plant poisons someone else.

I believe car companies and oil companies are in league with each other, and too many people start using electric cars, the oil companies lose a lot of money. And apparently money is more important than saving the world we live in.

Because its what the consumer wants just like huge over sized over priced houses that are expensive to heat and cool..options are available but people need to look rich and important, they recycle their trash and think they are doing good but not even close ...if the consumer demanded cars that got 60 plus mile to a gallon it would happen...Brazil made the change to small cars and now are totally independent of foreign oil..its also like tobacco. if people want it its there..

Why are you blaming this on someone else. Anyone who drives any vehicle for any discretionary reason is unnecessarily hurting the environment. And why do people buy SUVs when there are Yaris's, Civics and Prius's available. Stop blaming far off companies or politicians for decisions made by the common man. It's OUR fault, not THEIR fault, but I guess it feels better to blame someone else for our own poor decisions.
