How should society deal with these problems?
Is there a way to remove them from modern life?

Tolerance, self love, dignity, pride, understanding, self respect, kindness, hope. All of these things need to be taught to our children because they are the future.

Society is "dealing" with all of these issues in the only manner it is capable of...one step at a time. As long as there are people on earth, these random events will continue to occur. Often it is better to find the positive things in life, and do what one can to help solve the negative without allowing them to become overwhelming. Not everything is capable of being "fixed", and no one alone can fix any one of them.

Insha'Allah, there has been an answer revealed to all the people of the world but only truly followed by a few. The same is Islam as revealed in the Holy Qur'an and the lived example of the Prophet Muhammad (sallaahu 'alaihi wasallaam) and the original ummaah.
Insha'Allah, returning to these teachings would benefit all of the world.

First of all, we need to DEAL with them, not just pay them lip service while we spend all of our resources on a thoughtless war. The key to most of these problems is education. We need to be helping our young people prepare to take the place of baby boomers that will begin retiring en masse in 2010.
We need to continue and expand Head Start programs to give underprivileged children preparation for school. Then we need to revamp education to train people for jobs that exist and that are within their capabilities. We also need to provide adequate health care and nutrition for our children so that they will reach their maximum potential. I'm voting for Obama in 2008.

there are ways of tackling all these problems, but they all require a certain degree of cooperation and concession, most people nowadays are far too selfish to even begin to attempt to remedy such problems
