512 miles up the road. Take !-10 going west like you were going to California. There are signs to tell you where to get off for Ft. Bliss. Once you are west of San Antonio on I-10 the speed limit changes to 75 mph this helps to make the trip a little bit shorter.

There are three ways to get from San Antonio to Fort Bliss, Texas.
1. Amtrak - Sunset select or Texas Eagle, takes 12 hours and 30 min (approx) and cost $76.00-$147.00 dependent on train selected
2. Air - Flight time is approx 40 minutes cost based on a 7 day or longer one way ticket on Southwest $109.00
3. Car - Drive west from SAT on I -10 to El Paso and follow the signs to Fort Bliss. distance from mid San Antonio (Fort Sam Houston) to Fort Bliss is 551 miles. Cost of gas at 23 miles per gallon expecting $3.00/gallon is approximately $72.00. It takes about 7 hours and 30 minutes continuous driving to make the drive from SAT to Fort Bliss.
I made this trip several times while in the Army by plane and car (never tried the train).
