First, the only Birth Control that is 100% safe is abstinence--no sex at all. Since you are here asking this question I am going to assume that is not an option you are willing to consider.

The worst time to have sex is the middle of your cycle. You ovulate about 14 days from the fist day you START your period. You are likely to become pregnant about 5-7 days before and after ovulation. Don't just stop reading here--you need to do more reshearch because everyone's cycle is a bit different. Don't guess and don't just cross your fingers!

I took the pill for several years before deciding to stop taking it. For the last 3 years I have been following th cyclebeads system to help me keep track of the days when it is "safe" to have unprotected sex. Even during the "safe" time there is still a chance that I could get pregnant! Cyclebeads are not pills---they are just a way for you to count days and determine where you are in your cycle.

Below is a link to the cyclebeads website:

http://www.cyclebeads.com/how/

It seems they really want you to purchase this set of beads...but I did not purchase the beads. Every month I print out a new picture of the beads and use that to count and mark my cycle.

If you go to the site address the I listed above you will see a small picture of the beads. Click where it says "click here" and a larger picture come up up. I highlighted the image, saved it to my desktop and them print it every month. The page also has detailed instructions on how to use the beads. Just remember no birth control method is 100%!

I'm sure you are aware that there are other issues beside getting pregnant. Sexually Transmitted Diseases are very real and very dangerous so I highly suggest you consider using condoms to protect yourself. My husband and I have been married for 10 years but even with the best of relationships...you NEVER KNOW what the other party may be bringing home to you. You cannot see STDs!!

I don't know what else to say. Be careful, research, talk to a doctor. Here are another few good sites to consider to learn more about your body:

Here is another---it is aimed at teens but still a very good source of information:

Good luck to you!

The rhythm method is really difficult to use unless you know exactly when you ovulate. But usually you ovulate two weeks after your period. So in theory you can have sex after your period and about a week before your period, but you CAN GET PREGNANT AT ANY TIME. Since most women don't know when they ovulate. I would suggest a birth control pill and condoms if you really don't want to get pregnant. Using the rhythm method is like playing russian roulette with getting preggers anyway good luck!!

Well, there is no better time to have sex. If you have it before your period you can still get pregnant. If you have it after your period you can still get pregnant. If you have sex at all you can still get pregnant. I would suggest either not having sex if you do not want to get pregnat. Or I would suggest using birth control properly and have him use a condom to minimize any chances of getting pregnant. Even though with a condom and birth control there is still a chance of getting pregnant. The only sure way to make sure you do not get pregnant is to not have sex.

Given a regular cycle, a woman is most fertile between days 8 and 16 after the first day of her period. However this isn't an exact science, ovulation can happen at any time, therefore it's safer to always use protection.

anytime is the worst time to have sex if you don't want to get pregnant, but they say it's 5 days before and after your period.

Protection is the best bet against pregnancy. Condoms and the pill combination is the best. The most fertile period is before ovulation and 1 to 2 days afterwards.

Just use some kind of birth control, and then you don't have to worry about it. Besides, trying to figure out when you ovulate is terrible BC. It's completely unreliable, and you can ovulate at anytime (even DURING your period!).
