I agree RENT sounds like a bad idea. Especially for Scarlet Letter.
Try this instead: http://www.monologuearchive.com/l/leroux_002.html
If it HAS to be from RENT you could do Over the Moon and just speak all of it.
Or there's a tiny bit of dialogue before Take Me or Leave Me between Maureen and Joanne.
Or there's the eulogies just before I'll Cover You: Reprise.

Seriously, Rent?
The whole show is sung basically. It's almost impossible to get a monologue from it.
I highly suggest choosing another show for your monologue. Maybe a play instead of a musical?

Rent probably wouldn't be the best show to get a monologue from, since most of it's sung. I'd suggest looking at a monologue book instead. Pick something because it shows your range and/or fits the show, not necessarily because it came from a show you like.

Before the I'll Cover You reprise, Mimi and Maureen both have monologues about Angel that you could do. Or you could take one of the voice mails and perform it as a monologue. Unless you have the script though I suggest you rent or buy the movie of the live broadway performance and try and memorize or write one of them down. Good luck with your audition!

You really don't want a monologue from Rent when audiitoning for Scarlet Letter. Completely wrong era and feel. Try one of these:

Over the Moon? that's half sung half monologue. or you could do one of the Tune Up songs at the beginning.
