yes or no, and why

The earth is constantly cooling, ever since it's formation. But the atmosphere temperatures rise and fall in cycles called ice ages and non-ice ages. these variances are NOT controlled or affected by human causes. The cave men had no way of causing or stopping the ice ages. Nor do we. It is very pompus of humanity to think we are more powerfull than nature itself.

First, I don't think anyone really knows the yes or no answer. Based on all the propaganda you may certainly become convinced that it is warming, but where's the proof? It is something that is almost impossible to measure given the inaccuracies of past equipment and the political agenda of the present.

If warming can be proven, the next question needs to be how much of an effect does human activity have. Again, we have very little data here as well. Check out Michael Crictons common-sense article on this topic here: http://www.michaelcrichton.com/speech-alienscauseglobalwarming.html.

And finally, IF the earth is warming and IF people are causing it, the solutions presented are ridiculous. How about some common sense solutions that are not designed to line the pockets of Al Gore and others.

What temperature do you think the earth's thermostat should be set at?

Yes; The 10 warmest years in the last 130 years have all occured in the 1980s and in the 1990s.And within these ten,the three warmest years were in the 1990s.The average global temperature in 1995 reached 15.39 degree celcius breaking the earlier records.

Well you DO phrase it as ... "do you think," so I guess it's okay to try to box people in to just two choices on their OPINIONS, but.... Do you remember in school when the teacher would ask certain questions that one of the possible answers was "too little information to answer," or something to that effect? Look at the first person's answer. He is emphatic that it's a proven fact. LOL! Yeah, sure, buddy. I'm saying, how would we know? They say that there are three kinds of lies:

1. Lies
2. Damned lies
3. Statistics

We see it all the time, pseudo science and otherwise agenda-driven science telling us stuff as scientific fact. Over the last 100 years, do you realize how many "scientific facts" have later been refuted, overturned, or otherwise dismissed? Sure, sure, in certain group think circles "global warming" IS scientific fact. But let's not forget that it's at least a two-pronged debate:

1. Has the earth's atmosphere heated?
2. Is it caused by man, man's machines, gases, etc. OR is it a natural phenomenon?

There is a third and possibly a fourth question as well:

3. Is it simply part of the natural cyclical nature of weather?
4. Will it again someday naturally begin to cool?

Egomaniacs think that they have all the answers! Liars SAY they have all the answers! But if we are dealing with scientific facts then try these two on for size:

1. The 1930's is one of the hottest decades in recorded human history and NO ONE called it global warming! In fact, MANY of the all-time highs that we see today have survived this latest round of supposed alarming warming. Just this past summer I saw our temps at 101 and the record was 112 (in 1936), 104 and the record was 110 (in 1934).

2. The 1970's is one of the coldest decades in recorded human history and EVERYONE seemingly called it the coming of the next great ice age. In fact, many of the same "scientists" who were alarmists then on the side of cold are alarmists now on the side of heat.

You want facts? There are precious few rock-solid facts in this debate. Like too many debates today, the debate over global warming has become a he said, she said, finger pointing, name calling debate that is more about passion than fact. So, pick a side and feel smug in your position. That's what everyone else is doing.

If I had to guess, I would say that yes, we ARE in a hotter than normal period of history. I would guess that much if not all that heat is purely cyclical; i.e., the weather is all about ups and downs, ebbs and flows, droughts and floods, heat waves and cool spells. So, if my guess is correct then it will cool off again in the next year or two or three and those alarmists will move on to the next fear-driven issue.

I know that it has. There are many sources (lots of people measure this), here's a nice one from NASA.

No real scientist disputes this.

To Just_One_Man's_Opinion

Global cooling was just an idea of a few guys with no good data. They have no resemblance to the global warming scientists of today, who have a mountain of data. Details here:

The 1930s were only warm in the US, not all over the world. It's GLOBAL warming.

it is a proven fact that the temperature has increased over the past 10 decades. it is due to the green house effect, and the melting of the polar ice caps, and pollution.
