I know this African American man that was real disabled and cannot drive and during the Clintons great "I feel your pain" years he could not help him and Sen. Lott did get him help after they jerked him around, he was from Laurel, so why has lott got to resign, i mean Mississippi hasn't got much, just ranked over Louisiana, New Hampshire and New Mexico, Mississippi needs him.

Now I understand, thanks for that! This means he will be working closer with Hillery, wonder how he will like tha. According to Outrage by Dick Mooris, she is bringing in the number 2 spot with $450,000 in lobbyist money and that's pretty good for a JR. senator.

Thank yo Knicname and Andrew, sue for what friends said he never did anything for the state, only story I know is the one I told you about. They said as far as the state he supported the bases and that was it. They mentioned that Eastland didn't do anything either. Too bad he was for "instant" Americans wasn't he?

Just thought about that Andrew, it will have to be a special election, wonder if the Gov can pick someone, if not Thompson should be a shoe in.

By the way the "racist" card is a joke because check out the stats, he won by a land slid in every county and even the minority, majority ones. Funny how things go.

Didn't here the 'sex", but do remember someone said they paid a miiloion for info on a Congressman, but did not relate male or female. the lobbyist thing is nutty, but money talks.

Got to admit these are some of the funniest and best answers I have gotten in a while. I mean classic and I haven't laughed this much in a long time. Never knew he was that bad.

he resigned because of new ethics rules...

however, i say that the people of Mississippi who elected him to serve a full term as Senator should SUE the b*stard for shirking his duties in order to pursue a career as a lobbyist.

In the news today, Trent Lott said he was resigning to look at new prospects.

However, there are new Senate Ethic Laws going into effect Jan. 1, 2008. If Lott leaves the Senate by Dec 31, 2007 he can become a lobbyist after 1 year.
After Jan.1, he would have to wait for 2 years.

This is no altruistic gesture...just greed!

It may just be a calendar coincidence, but his resignation effective the end of the year allows Lott to just slip under the effective date of the "Honest Leadership and Open Government Act of 2007" that places new broad disclosure rules on lobbyists regarding campaign funds, contacts with elected officials and recruiting of ex elected officials.

Like I said, probably just a coincidence....

Because the new 'ethics" law kicks in on Jan 1-if he waits till then to resign he cannot join a lobbying firm for two years.

Just where is this Liberal media? Are you that "brain-washed" to believe this tripe? The main stream media is made up of 6 different corporations, each own by the most Conservative people on the planet! If you really believe the media is Liberal, then you really don't know what you are talking about! And that's really sad! I pity you.

I heard speculation of a sex scandal. Of course this was from a couple of LA shock-jocks that say lots of things and this was just in passing.

Trent Lott is a pandering fool who disgraced himself in how he handled himself during the Strom Thurmond debacle. He is symbolic of what is wrong with the republican party today. Good-bye Lott and good riddance!

It is a shame - we are losing a perfectly good emasculated Republican for new one that will have to be revealed for the racist he is and tamed all over again.

If he resigned now he can lobby in one year. If he had waited for his term to be up he would have had to wait two years to lobby because of the new rules.
