What is the exact requirements when you turn in a manuscript?

I'm attempting to write a novel, but wish to start if off with the right formatting. What is the correct spacings and so forth to begin with?

Manuscript submissions are double-spaced. With the exception of the first paragraph of Chapter One, all subsequent paragraphs are indented five spaces. Use "Format" on the tool bar to have that done for you.

You can still write your complete manuscript in single space, and once you are satisfied with the editing, you can then highlight the entire manuscript and press CTRL and the number 2 simultaneously. That will put the manuscript in double-space.

Use one-inch margins and left justification setting. Never use the block format because literary agencies want to do their own blocking of the manuscript to fit their specifications.

Consider finding a copy of Cynthia Laufenberg's, "Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript." The booklet is an invaluable aid in formatting your manuscript with submission recommendations.

Don't forget making a cover sheet if it is a novel. On the cover sheet you must have your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address in the upper-left corner.

At the upper-right corner you must specify the rights you wish to sell to the agency and the manuscript word count.

Use Times Roman, font 12 or Courier Font 12. Don't use elaborate and fancy fonts to impress the agent. They won't be.
