Because the US has a real problem when it comes to Israel. No politicians can say anything bad about israel, and they all blindly support Israel no matter what. A nuclear Iran would be a problem for israel because it would tilt the balance of power in the Middle east to a more level position. Israel would no longer be able to be an aggressor and occupier of Arab lands as it has in the past. Since US politicians are too weak and scared to say 'no' to Israel, the official US position is that Iran is a terrorist country and must no be allowed to possess a nuclear bomb.

A nuclear Iran could actually be the key element that finally brings an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict, although not on strictly Israeli terms, and this is why the US is opposed. A nuclear Iran could be a very good thing indeed.

The Iranians are saying all they want is nuclear energy, but we all know what that really means. Nuclear power plants are far too expensive to build and operate than conventional power plants, and this is why there have been no new applications for a nuclear plant in the US in over 30 years. If Iran wants energy to generate electricity, conventional power plants would be much more cost effective. So when they say they want it for the peaceful generation of energy, we know this is just PR hype and nothing more.

The difference is these countries aren't run by Mullahs. Iran is. However, nobody said that Iran can't have nuclear energy. However, they want a nuclear weapon. That is the problem. Yes. Israel has the bomb. However, the Israelis haven't threatened to destroy any other country. Iran has threatened them however.

Iran can have all the nuclear energy they want to,

They just cannot have normal relations with western nations if they choose to do so.

So Iran has to decide, have normal relations and trade with the west and open thier nuclear program all the way,

Or continue as they are, and not have normal relations and trade with the west.

It is Iran's choice.

But don't act like they have a right to have normal relations and trade with the west, no country has such a right.

So you changed the wording in your sentence. Once you said bomb, and once you said nuclear energy. Well, that is - "supposed" nuclear energy.

Nobody has a problem with Iran having a peaceful energy program, but most fear (and rightfully so), that they will do something detrimental with it.

Have you ever seen an Israeli blow themselves up? Or a French person? I think not.

Iran supports terrorism and actually funds it, DIRECTLY. That gives a very good concern, and an excellent reason to prevent them from getting these weapons.

Pakistan India and Israel did not sign the non proliferation treaty. Iran did. It's is not nuclear energy that they are after and anyone who believes that are too naive for words.

Who are we to dictate who has nuclear technology? The US can do whatever it can so only its allies have the technology but in the end Iran will develope a nuke wether we like it or not and its going to be your kids fighting in the next war not mine.

we didn't LET them have the bomb, they got it all by themselves....Iran will use it as a threat if they have the technology. And we could do something diplomatic about it and if that really wasn't having any effect, the European Union would likely be involved with the US to MAKE them stop. They do not need nukes and if they get them, the Iranian government might fall...the Iranian government knows this, but is taking it to the limit to see far they get

We didn't let them have nuclear weapons, it's not like they had to ask permission.
None of the countries you mention are signatories to the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty except Iran. That is the legal basis.

Are you saying that you think that Iran is the moral equivalent of the countries listed ? Iran is a dysfunctional theocracy intent on seeing the destruction of Israel. It seems to me that's not very responsible.

The USA did not "let" any country obtain nuclear weapons; they attained them on their own. Iran is an enemy country that supports our terrorist enemies, and is one of the leading supporters of radical Islamisim, Saudi Arabia is the other. Is it wrong for us to want to prevent an enemy country from obtaining nuclear weapons?

If you really believe that Iran is only interested in obtaining nuclear power, then I have some swamp land in Florida to sell you, chump!
