Whilst driving my car over 60 mph (1996 Nissan Maxima Aut.) I suddenly felt a drag as if I ran over some very strong adhesive. At my destrination I tried to back and it wouldn't move in reverse. I drove home and decided to back up in my drive way. I depressed the exal. and it back up with a jolt roughly. I tried other gears. It wouldn't move in 1st and 2nd gear. Then couple weeks after I tried it again. Now it will drive forward but with an effort as if somthing is wrong in the diff. or transmission. It hadn't run out of transmission oil and I never had this problem before. I once took out the radiator and had was to remove the hose that take the fluid to the transmission to cool it and some fluid drained out, but before I drove it I replaced the fluid and it was full. Can anyone tell me what's the problem, if it's transmission problem, do I have to replace the tran or is it a minor problem. Thanks.

You have transmission issues. If it's a major issue requiring rebuilding (probably is), I'd suggest simply dumping it and getting a newer car. A trans could be 3000-4000 dollars, for the same price you could get a 2000-2002 car.

Transmissions do not have to run out of fluid to stop working properly. As little as a half pint low can cause major problems. A half pint high can cause other problems, also. Read the owner's manual and check the transmission fluid level in exactly the way they say, normally with the engine running and fully warmed up.

there's a seal interior the transmission that is going undesirable. After the motor vehicle sits for some hours, like over night the fluid drains faraway from it. once you first start up off interior the morning, it takes a on a similar time as for the fluid to re-seal in that valve. you could attempt some trans-track for a short-term restoration. There different products that still will help. A fluid/clear out replace won't restoration this issue. Take it to a transmission save and that they might supply you an estimate of restoration expenses. they might additionally clarify this somewhat extra desirable that i can in this communicate board. regrettably, this issue will maximum probably require an entire rebuild because of the fact so as to get on your issue, the transmission will might desire to be disassembled. counting on your motor vehicle, you could nicely be extra desirable off with a re synthetic transmission. Your issue gets worse quickly, and ultimately your transmission will supply up working, leaving you stranded.

From what your saying mate I think your transmission is shagged. You may find that it could be cheaper to buy a new car than replacing the trans. Altho I live in New Zealand so it may be different where you are.
Good luck.

sounds like it may be a transmission problem, i would take it to a mechanic and have it checked out, the more you drive it, the worse damage you will do to it
