Electrical power plants produce electricity by heating water into steam, which then turns turbines, which in turn spin the generators which make the electricity.

Oil-fueled power plants burn oil to create the required heat. They create a large amount of mildly toxic waste, including greenhouse gasses such as CO2, which is filtered for the really nasty stuff and then more or less dumped into the ecosystem.

Nuclear power plants use nuclear fission to create the required heat. They create a relatively small amount of highly toxic, radioactive waste which must be disposed of in a safe manner. There is considerable debate as to how (in the USA) we should dispose of nuclear waste. Nuclear power plants also often use river water for cooling, which warms the river, which alters the ecosystem of the river downstream of the plant.

(sorry if you have trouble reading!)
Nuclear power plants use special things that break atoms apart. the waste from the parted atom can make energy and power. this is also very dangerous. Oil is not used. Oil can still be used to make power. We are far away from losing all the oil, but it is thought that it might happen in the future.
