Complex "inventions" are the work of many people. Al Gore may have been the first to come up with the concept, just as Arthur Clarke did with the communications satellite. Neither one built what he had thought up. Gore never claimed to have "invented" the internet. It was first developed by the military.

Had the people at CERN not developed the World Wide Web, the internet as we know it, would probably still be a government thing without much graphic-wise. No YouTube, no email, no blogs; just blah pages upon pages of information.
