Maybe it's just in my head, but I get a feeling my speed drops when it's on.. like it's interfering with the waves.

I just gogled this as my pc in the garage constantly disconnects as I have a space heater nearby. I just turned it off to see if that was the problem, the pc is running great now. Although I can't find evidence online that space heaters cause interference, when I turned mine off, the laptop is now perfect. It's only been a few minutes so it may not be that, but so far so good.

probably not, but you should turn it on and check the real speed in Mbps, and do it for when it is off. if it is true, you should get an internet guy to try and fix that.
