Because Mexico is a country of it's own, with millions of inhabitants. Mexico has no interest in becoming part of the US.

The US actually conquered Mexico during the Mexican-American war. The US took the northernmost third of the Mexican territory and then gave the rest of Mexico back to the Mexicans.

If America made Mexico part of the United States then Mexicans would be American citizens and be able to vote and have congressmen.

Currently, congress doesn't want to make Puerto Rico into a state because they don't want to have to give them senators and representatives - congressmen are afraid that creating more seats in congress will "dilute" their power.

Mexico would have WAY more senators and representatives than Puerto Rico would. So, you definitely would not see the US Congress wanting to incorporate Mexico into the US.

The US would probably have to become officially bilingual if that many Spanish speakers suddenly became citizens. That would probably be rather upsetting to all the Americans that are still trying to get English declared the official language of the US.

Of course, the Mexicans may not want to be part of the US, as well.

After the Mexican-American War, in the 1840s, fully half of Mexico was taken over by the US, including what became Texas, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. Merging what remains would not be in the best interests of either country.

Are you advocating taking over a sovereign country? Don't we have enough wars going on? No wonder other people of the world believe the US is the ultimate war-like nation. We will never have Mexico as anything but a an ally and trade partner.

Loved Hapa chic, lpaganus and midnite's responses...... and the last guy before me has a good point as well!!! WHO WOULD WANT TO BECOME A PART OF THE USA??? no thanks........ we ARE already americans, and no, we aren't interested at all in becoming part of the U.S.A. -- we might have poverty, corruption and a bunch of problems, but we are FREE and sovereign and so shall we remain!!!! We MOST DEFINTELY are better off without the USA messing with us more than they already do!!!
