It doesn't sound right to me. How can I make it proper?

"Many people reject a career in law because it requires a great deal of learning."

CORRECTION:

People often reject a career in law because it is very heavy in work and it requires a great deal of learning (in order to be to successful).

I would substitute education for learning. The reason? While education and learning are essentially the same thing, 'learning' in this sentence is vague. Education implies something more specific, ie an organized, orderly process that requires a significant investment of time and effort and it makes more sense that this requirement would turn some people away.

What is it that requires a "great deal of learning?"Instead of saying " it ", tell what it is that requires the learning. Such as Horseback riding requires a great deal........"

The sentence here needs more context to properly judge it, but it seems to be okay. As long as you make your anticedent to 'it' clear in the preceeding sentences, your phrase sounds pretty gramatically correct.

It is fine as it is. If you want to make it clearer, you could say "... such a career requires .."
