So here’s the deal: I am Belizean and Guatemalan, and my husband is Puerto Rican and African American. Latino culture and heritage has always been very important in my family, not at all in my husbands (he was raised by his African American grandparents). I have always wished that I had a Latino name like my sisters and cousins, but instead I got stuck with Lisa Marie :( My husband and I already have a son, named Frank Alexander. I really want our next child (who is a girl) to have a Latina name. But my husband doesn’t think it will sound right, since our last name is Williams (he took his African American mother’s name). What can I do to convince him otherwise?

You should think of your daughter first. What would be best for her? Depending on the area where you live and other details, an Anglo name might be better than a Latino one. You can always share your culture with her as she grows or give her a Latino nickname.
It's sad but a Latino name can be a disadvantage and that's not likely to change in the next 18-20 years. Eventually she'll be looking for a job and her name might get in her way.
Pessimistic I know. I have a Latino surname and it hasn't helped me much so maybe I'm just unlucky :D After all, she'll be a Williams not a -----ez

Heheh. Why not compromise and find a name that works for both of you? Marisol is pretty and I think it could work for both you and hubby? Maria is classic...

Well, in my opinion, YOU are the one carrying the baby. You are the ONLY person who can actually push the child out into the world.
YOUR body is the one going through physical and emotional changes.
You get the final say on what her name is. He isn't the one to "give" your child the name.
You say "This baby is going to have a latina name. It's important to me." end of story.
Aside from that, I have latina friends who married men with last names like Johnson, Andrews, and St. James.

Ok. What I would do if I were you is talk to your husband about it. Explain to him that you understand where he is coming from but you really want a Latino name for your baby. Then look at baby names. Ask him what names he likes from the Latino baby names. Use your last name and see if it will fit and if it sounds right. Say the whole name and see if to you and your husband it sounds right.

How about Daniella Williams? Still Latina but sounds nice with his last name. There are many latina names that sound nice with Williams. Maybe you have to pick some and run it past him. Maybe Isabella Williams, very beautiful! Good luck!

My husband is Mexican and I am White American. We wanted names for our children that work well being both so we found names that were both Mexican and American. Go through some baby name books or baby name websites and find names that are versatile.
Emilia
Carina
Christina
Vanessa
Esther
Veronica
Adela

good luck!

Try Janai or Vanessa - They are good Puerto Rican names but could still fit with his last name.
Good luck.

Tell him again that it is very important to you. My husband wanted our daughter to have a name from his heritage and we agreed on a name that was nice.

Why don't you compromise and to a Latino middle name.

I'd say that 85% of latino names come from the Bible... so tell him that you'd like a biblical name for your daughter (thats if you are a christian).. and good luck
